What Did You Do Today to Earn Extra Income Online?

That's the question I ask myself every night, before turning in to bed... "What did I do today to earn extra money online?" If I cannot answer that question in a positive manner - then I know that no matter what else I accomplished, earning more money was not one of them. Many newcomers to Internet marketing will believe that they can answer in a positive manner by referring to the new ebook they just bought, or the forums they spent time on learning how to earn money online. But these actions, while certainly important from a learning aspect, are not generating income. Once you've developed a certain minimum understanding of what you need to do online to earn extra money - the critical step is to actually start doing it. Nothing else will earn you money. There is no magic 'push button' you can push to fill your Paypal or Clickbank account with money... only work will do it. Reading forums, learning how to market on the Internet from ebooks may seem like work - but it's not generating any cash! So to change things around so that you can begin earning money, you must develop a set of daily & weekly goals. For example, if you're trying to earn money with a blog - then a weekly set of goals might look like this:
1. Research 3 Long-Tail keywords - write three new articles, submit to EzineArticles.
2. Take articles submitted to Ezinearticles that were published last week, add them to your blog.
3. Submit these new blog articles you just added to several social websites.
4. Examine your incoming keywords on Google, write a new article that matches one of them, and post it only to your Blog. (You need unique content!)
5. Post comments on 10 Forums, including a good 'signature line' leading back to your blog.
6. Post comments on 10 'DoFollow' blogs.
7. Submit your RSS feed to 3 new RSS feed aggregators.
8. Do a link check with LinkDiagnosis.com, or similar - verify that your link count is higher than last week. If not, why not? Backlinks are important - get some more!
You can break this weekly set of goals into daily goals - I tend to get more of my goals done on the weekend, but this is a personal preference, perhaps you'd prefer to leave your weekends free for leisure activities. But the important thing is to have these goals written down, and taped to your monitor - so that you can constantly be reminded of what needs to be done. The Internet can be a place where you'll encounter a tremendous information overload - there's so many new and different ideas for making money, and so many interesting things to try out. The trick is to finish your weekly goals first, and only then play with new projects. By ensuring that your actual work that will generate income is accomplished first, you'll ensure your success - new projects may very well pan out, but if you keep jumping from one idea to the next before completely drilling down into one concept, you'll never get anywhere. Keep it simple, and keep on track.
